Part III: After ditching his 2020 screenplay about Democratic leaders protecting brain-scrambled Joe Biden when its political utility ended, Greenwald writes a new one with a perfect ending.
Sadly yes, to judge from the cretins sending me hate mail to defend his honor, though "Glenn Greenwald's honor" is an even bigger oxymoron than "military intelligence."
I looked up his Substack and he’s got 317,000 subscribers. That seems like a large number but where does it fit in the hierarchy of Substack? Is it in the top 10? The top 100? The top 1000?
I think there’s an easy way to look that up, but I don’t know how to do it, maybe you do.
Regardless, he clearly has a significant readership, and those of us who liked him in his early days — along with his fellow emigre’ from Omidyar’s enterprise, Matt Taibbi — are still scratching our heads wondering what the hell happened to these guys.
So yes, I suppose he’s worth the bother of a takedown.
Tis my understanding that he doesn't write anymore except for X/Twitter and only does videos on Rumble. I don't think he's posted anything at Substack for more than a year.
Hey, can you send me an email at ken.silverstein@gmail.com? I’ll get back to you tomorrow or more likely Wednesday because tomorrow is going to be brutal.
Sorry in advance for a long-winded comment. When Greenwald sticks to media criticism and 'whistle blowers' or leaking secrets of the "deep state" he's really quite good. He's even OK with me when he's pointing out the faux-left hypocrisy of the corporate right-of-center Democrats, even though a large chunk of his audience isn't apparently capable of processing some of the nuance and definitely doesn't know the history (Unclaimed Territory and Salon years, criticizing the GOP). It's when he latches onto a political story/angle that seems designed to up the right-leaning eyes, clicks, likes, follows and subs on his chosen platform du jour (Substack, Rumble, Twitter) and gets all shrill* about it that he loses me completely.
To wit: This whole "Democratic Coup" headline of his. You've laid out a pretty comprehensive thread for anyone who wishes to follow it. Glenn spent years pointing out Biden's obvious dementia (or whatever it is) and saying he shouldn't be allowed to hold the most powerful political and military position in the Empire. But then when the Democrats and media slowly (and then suddenly) did what he'd been demanding, he turned an about face and criticized them for doing it. Mercilessly and completely inconsistent with his alleged wishes, just prior. A ridiculous sequence of events. I really wish he'd at least try to offer some kind of rebuttal or explanation.
At the end of the day, all this, including his appearances on Faux Snooze**, really does for me is emphasize how broken our fake/co-opted democracy is and that this oligarch-owned two party political shit show is mere kabuki theater. Glenn's just a minor character.
* Glenn used to love using the word "shrill" so I couldn't help myself.
** Glenn is rich enough that he doesn't need Rupert Murdoch's dirty money and ostensibly smart enough to know that showing up on his network to (often rightly) criticize Democrats, the legacy media and the "deep state" (and some Republicans) will never be more than preaching to the choir, and that any nuance he tries to inject into the 'narrative' will be lost on 98% of the people watching.
Ken, I think there's something 'off' with this para: "Sadly, Greenwald could do little more than watch in despair as the clock wound down to the November election and the media blackout held firm. He never even knew if the stream of underground samizdats he posted on Twitter, as this was prior to the Golden Age of Free Speech ushered in by Elon Musk that finally lifted the wall of censorship on Greenwald, his close friend Matt Taibbi, and other once-outlawed independent journalists."
Maybe "...never even knew if the stream of samizdat he posted on Twitter [would be seen by anyone], as this was prior to..."
Nice takedown of nutty Glenn, but does anyone actually read him anymore?

I'll explain what happened to those guys in Part V. I know.
